Find out more about Thomas

Owner of Millbrook farm, co-owner/founder of Millbrook Off Road Centre and Terrafirma Training Limited. Thomas has been around farm vehicles all his life and this shows in Thomas’s present driving ability. He joined KJ Landrover Off Road Team in 2010 as a co-driver/winch operator, alongside team founder, Kevin Jones. It soon became clear that Thomas had a natural talent for this type of driving and it wasn’t long before he became Team KJ Landrover’s top driver. He studied agricultural engineering at Tralee College, County Kerry which, within our environment at Terrafirma Training, comes in very useful. Thomas owns a well-equipped and very capable Land Rover Defender 110 Puma, which is kitted out with a front electric winch to facilitate winch training, 4x4 off road driving and trailer handling. He gained his instructor’s licence through Lantra in 2014 specialising in 4x4 off road driver training, becoming, along with his business partner, Kevin Jones, the only 2 people in the Republic of Ireland to be qualified, by Lantra, in accredited 4x4 driver training to QQI Level 5 and the first in Ireland to become qualified and accredited by Lantra, QQI Level 5, in trailer handling and winching. He is always looking to add new skills to pass onto our many clients or trainees at Terrafirma Training and is currently undergoing training with the Road Safety Authority of Ireland to gain his Approved Driving Instructors Certificate (ADI).

Find out more about Kevin

Co-owner/founder of Terrafirma Training Limited and Millbrook Off Road Centre. His 4x4 off road background came from time spent in the Royal Air Force, joining straight from school training as an aircraft engineer. His role within the forces entailed him driving in many off road scenarios, such as Harrier detachment Belize, Central America and in RAF Germany with NATO’s Harrier force. His duties also included work on the many aircraft bombing ranges around the UK and Germany, which most of the time included driving on remote moorland and sand dunes, a great place to learn to drive off road. He passed his driving test in a newly painted NATO green Series III. Other vehicles driven include forward control 101, Defender 90/110, Bedford 4x4 HGV, Unimog aircraft tower and Scorpion light tank. Kevin also holds a full HGV licence.

Kevin, along with Thomas, founded Millbrook Off Road Centre with a view to offering an arrive and drive facility for members of the public to use their own 4x4 vehicles in off road conditions in a safe and professionally managed environment. Terrafirma Training has the perfect location within Millbrook Off Road Centre in a disused gravel pit and adjoining lands. Both Kevin and Thomas soon felt there was a need for a fully accredited training facility at Millbrook Off Road Centre, rather than an ad hoc operation. Training has been a big part of Kevin’s past within the Royal Air Force and, along with Thomas, decided to apply to become one of the first 4x4 off road driving instructors in the Republic of Ireland, with the correct Lantra accreditation, to offer training at Terrafirma Training to the Lantra standards and, most importantly, QQI Level 5, both Kevin and Thomas passed their Train the Trainer qualification with distinction.
